Jeonnam Province Supports Delivery Fees for Island Residents Throughout September
Jeonnam Province announced on the 31st that it will partially support the higher delivery fees for residents aged 19 and over who have their registered address on islands during the month of September, which includes the Chuseok holiday, compared to the mainland.
This is the result of Jeonnam Province's continuous appeals to central government agencies since last year to alleviate the burden of expensive delivery costs for island residents, and cooperation with local lawmakers, securing 1.4 billion KRW in national funds for this year’s new Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries project, “Island Area Living Logistics (Delivery) Fee Support.”
The Island Area Living Logistics (Delivery) Fee Support project provides partial subsidies for the additional delivery fees paid by island residents, who have had to pay higher shipping costs compared to the mainland when using delivery services.
The support targets approximately 40,384 residents on 178 islands across six cities and counties: Mokpo, Yeosu, Yeonggwang, Wando, Jindo, and Sinan. The support funds are 100% national funds and will be provided within the budget allocated to each city and county, with limits set per individual.
If eligible residents pay additional delivery fees for delivery services used during the one-month period from September 1 to 30, which includes this year’s Chuseok holiday, they can apply for support by submitting an application form. Priority will be given to residents who used delivery services during this period, and additional support for usage outside this period will be provided within the budget.
Applications for support will be accepted at the relevant eup, myeon, and dong offices from October 21 to September 27. After reviewing delivery usage records provided by delivery companies for the same period and verifying the applicant’s submitted documents, eligible recipients will be confirmed and the support funds will be directly deposited into the applicant’s account around November.

Choi Jeong-gi, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “Although this support project is temporary, it is expected to have a positive impact on improving the quality of life for island residents who have been neglected. We will actively consult with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to secure funding so that support can be provided year-round in the future.”
