Gwangju Dong-gu 'Chungjang Festival Success Wish' 3rd Poster Released
Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is sequentially unveiling a series of posters to ensure the successful hosting of the nostalgic Chungjang Festival.
On the 27th, Dong-gu introduced the third series, 'Memory Theater,' marking D-70 days until the opening of the Chungjang Festival.
‘Memory Theater’ captures the scenery of Gwangju Theater and the area around Chungjang-ro 4·5-ga from a bird’s-eye view, as if looking down from the sky on a vast canvas.
The buses passing over Gwangju Stream, the willows along the stream, the newly built buildings, and the people walking toward the theater among old shops resemble a multi-panel folding screen.
Artist Choi Yong-ho said, “Gwangju Theater, established by Koreans in 1935, is the second oldest existing theater in Korea.” He added, “It is a meaningful space where events such as the ‘1945 Liberation Commemoration Grand Performance’ and the ‘1984 Speech by Baekbeom Kim Gu’ were held. I wanted to fully capture Gwangju Theater, a landmark of Chungjang-ro, within the memories of Chungjang-ro.”
The three works released as part of the festival series, along with two more to be unveiled, will all be exhibited as ‘media art’ and ‘original paintings’ in a specially created ‘Theme Hall’ during the festival period.
Additionally, the festival series paintings, created in monochrome, will offer participants the opportunity to complete them by filling in their own colors and emotions.
Participation is available after applying at the ‘Festival Lounge’ and other locations set up at the festival site.

Im Taek, head of Dong-gu Office, said, “The Chungjang Festival is a festival to look back on the path Gwangju has walked and gain energy to move forward into the future through the power of memories. Therefore, we aimed to embody the meaning of the time and space called Gwangju.” He added, “We hope many people will show interest and participate in the ‘20th Gwangju Nostalgic Chungjang Festival,’ which celebrates its coming of age this year.”
