Ryu Seung-wan's 'Mil-su' Draws 310,000 Viewers on Opening Day, Tops Box Office
Tom Cruise's 'Mission Impossible 7' Ranks 2nd
The film "Milsoo" starring actors Kim Hye-soo and Yum Jung-ah (directed by Ryu Seung-wan) topped the box office on its opening day by attracting 310,000 viewers.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 27th, "Milsoo" drew 318,097 viewers on its release day, the 26th, securing first place at the box office. Including preview screenings, the cumulative audience reached 359,279.
This marks the first time in 42 days since "The Outlaws 3" (directed by Lee Sang-yong) on the 14th of last month that a Korean film has claimed the number one spot at the box office.
"Milsoo" is a maritime crime action film about people who make a living by salvaging daily necessities thrown into the sea, who then get caught up in a life-changing major incident. The cast includes Kim Hye-soo, Yum Jung-ah, Jo In-sung, Park Jung-min, and Go Min-si.
Director Ryu Seung-wan launched his new film "Milsoo" as the first release of the summer movie season. Following this, films such as "The Moon" (directed by Kim Yong-hwa), "Unofficial Operation" (directed by Kim Sung-hoon), and "Concrete Utopia" (directed by Um Tae-hwa) are scheduled to meet audiences one after another.
On the same day, "Mission: Impossible ? Dead Reckoning Part One," starring Tom Cruise, attracted 75,246 viewers and ranked second. Since its release on the 12th, its cumulative audience has reached 3,175,818.
In third place was Disney·Pixar's animation "Elemental," which drew 73,203 viewers. Fourth place went to "Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine," followed by "Barbie" in fifth.
