Russian Defense Minister's Visit to North Korea: "North Korea is an Important Partner... Strengthening Defense Cooperation"
Sergei Shoigu, the Russian Defense Minister leading the Russian military delegation, held talks with Kang Sun-nam, North Korea's Minister of Defense, during his visit to North Korea, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on the 26th (local time).
According to AFP and Russian TASS news agencies, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the day saying, "Today, Sergei Shoigu, the Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, held talks with Kang Sun-nam, the Minister of Defense of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in Pyongyang."
Minister Shoigu referred to North Korea as an "important partner" of Russia and expressed confidence that "today's talks will help strengthen cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries," according to TASS and other agencies.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Minister Shoigu would visit Pyongyang from the 25th to the 27th for three days at the invitation of the North Korean side to attend events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice agreement.
