Gwangju Seo-gu to Host Yangdong Geonmaek Festival on 29th... Rich Experiences and Performances

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 26th that the ‘2023 Yangdonggeon Beer Festival’ will be held at Yangdonggeon Fish Market on the 29th.

This festival, conducted as part of the cultural tourism market development project at Yangdonggeon Fish Market, was promoted to create a wholesome and healthy market with familiar content such as various foods and beer, as well as experiential events for children.

The festival will officially begin with the opening ceremony on the main stage at 2 PM on the 29th.

Following the opening performance, the stage will heat up the festival atmosphere as much as the midsummer heat with invited performances including a group singing contest, musical instrument performances, and dance shows.

Experience booths and side events will operate from 1 PM, offering various activities such as the Building Life Art Contest for children, keyring coloring and tattoo experiences, and a midsummer Christmas photo zone.

Additionally, there will be a rice ball sharing event featuring the award-winning rice balls from the May rice ball contest, and a space where visitors can enjoy a variety of side dishes made with dried seafood, prepared by the ‘Youth Battle’ youth club from Honam University’s Department of Food Service and Culinary Arts.

Seo-gu plans to make thorough preparations to create a clean street environment by exchanging recyclables generated during the festival for designated waste bags as part of ESG eco-friendly management led by Yangdonggeon Fish Market.

Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu said, “Following the Tongmaek Festival in April and now this Beer Festival, I hope Yangdong Traditional Market will evolve from a simple shopping space into a cultural and experiential space with diverse sights and attractions.”
