"Q2 Wafer Shipments Increase for the First Time Since Q3 Last Year"
Stable Shipment Volume of 12-Inch Wafers
The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced on the 26th that the global shipment volume of silicon wafers in the second quarter increased by 2.0% from the previous quarter to 3.331 billion square inches.
The shipment volume of silicon wafers had been declining since the third quarter of last year but recorded a rebound for the first time in the second quarter. SEMI evaluated that "especially the shipment volume of 300mm (12-inch) wafers is showing a stable trend."
However, since it is not yet a full recovery, they explained, "the semiconductor industry is still working to deplete inventory, and fabs (factories) are unable to maintain high utilization rates."
