Mapo-gu, Addressing 'Vacant Houses' Undermining Safety and Residential Environment
Starting this month, a survey and grading will be conducted on 495 suspected vacant houses
Based on the survey results, classification into demolition, safety measures, public utilization, etc... Systematic maintenance and management plan
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) has decided to conduct a survey on vacant houses that threaten safety and spoil the urban landscape, and to establish and implement a maintenance plan.
Currently, there are 495 households in Mapo-gu suspected to be vacant houses. These are places confirmed to have had no electricity or water usage for over a year, indicating no residence or use.
The district plans to conduct a survey on these suspected vacant households through the Korea Real Estate Board within this month.
The survey will be conducted by visiting the sites to confirm vacancy, and will be a full inspection method that grades the buildings based on their condition and risk level.
This survey will also serve to identify unauthorized houses among the vacant houses.
Unauthorized houses not registered in the building register are currently classified as illegal constructions mainly where some complaints have been raised, but there is no accurate status available.
Therefore, vacant houses and unauthorized houses have been excluded from safety management and inspection targets, leaving them neglected for a long time and at high risk of becoming disaster-prone areas.
Based on the survey results, the district will establish a maintenance plan corresponding to demolition, maintenance, safety measures, repair, or public utilization, and will guide the owners and collect their opinions through a consultation process.
