According to major Chinese media on the 25th, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) held a meeting and announced the dismissal of Minister Qin and the appointment of Commissioner Wang as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. No explanation was given regarding the reason for Qin's dismissal.
Minister Qin Gang disappeared from public view after meeting with officials from Sri Lanka and Vietnam in Beijing on the 25th of last month. At the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the 13th and 14th, Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party Political Bureau, attended. At that time, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Minister Qin was absent due to "health issues."
