“T'way Air Achieves Largest First Half Performance, Turns Profit in Q2 for the First Time”
First Half Sales 644.9 Billion KRW · Operating Profit 102.3 Billion KRW
T'way Air announced on the 24th that it recorded its highest performance with sales of 644.9 billion KRW and an operating profit of 102.3 billion KRW in the first half of this year. Sales in the second quarter were 286.1 billion KRW, with an operating profit of 19.6 billion KRW. The company explained that even in the traditionally off-season second quarter, the increase in passengers through route expansion led to increased sales.
Last year's resumption of flights to Japan and Southeast Asia routes and the increase in passenger demand due to new routes launched from Cheongju Airport starting in the first quarter of this year (Da Nang, Bangkok, Osaka, Nha Trang, Yanji) also influenced the performance.
T'way Air plans to continue its upward trend in the second half of the year by expanding new routes and resuming flights such as Incheon-Kyrgyzstan, Kota Kinabalu, Hong Kong, Saga, and Daegu-Mongolia.
The company, which introduced three large A330-300 aircraft with 347 seats last year, has maintained an average load factor of over 85% since launching the Incheon-Sydney regular route at the end of last year. Large aircraft have also been deployed on major routes to Mongolia, Bangkok, Singapore, and Japan.
Regarding transportation performance following the introduction of large aircraft, the company transported about 4.06 million passengers in the first half of 2019 before the COVID-19 outbreak. In the first half of this year, it transported about 4.86 million passengers, showing a 20% increase in passengers. In the second half of this year, it plans to operate a total of 31 aircraft by adding two B737-800NG planes. Next year, it will bring in more than six additional aircraft, including large planes.
