Mokpo Coast Guard: Moored Vessel Flooded and Capsized at Muan Madong Dock
Emergency Safety Measures Taken... No Casualties Reported
Seven vessels moored at Madong Pier in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, were flooded and capsized, prompting the Coast Guard to take emergency safety measures.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard Station, a report was received at 11:46 a.m. on the 24th that several vessels moored at Madong Pier in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, were flooding and capsizing.

Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched the local police station rescue team and the West Sea Marine Special Rescue Unit to the scene, and quickly reinforced the mooring lines to prevent the sinking of seven vessels, including fishing vessel A (1.85 tons, registered in Muan), which was flooding.
Subsequently, the Coast Guard checked the safety status of about 40 vessels moored at Madong Pier to prevent additional safety accidents.

A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, “We will strengthen patrols within the harbor to prevent accidents involving moored vessels such as flooding and capsizing,” and urged, “Since flooding and capsizing accidents frequently occur during heavy rain periods, vessel owners and related parties should conduct safety inspections regularly.”
