'Peace Marathon' to be Held in the DMZ in October

View original imageGyeonggi Province is recruiting participants for the 'DMZ Peace Marathon' that runs through the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) area to wish for greater peace until September 21.
Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, with support from the Ministry of Unification and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this event is designed to experience the ecological and peaceful values of the DMZ and to promote tourism activation in the DMZ area.
The marathon is one of the sports events in the DMZ Open Festival, which features performances, exhibitions, academic events, and sports activities, running from May to November.
The marathon will be held on October 7 at 9 a.m., starting from Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri, crossing the Unification Bridge, and returning to the military control line area at Gunnae Samgeori, with two categories: a half course and a 10km course.
This event is very popular every year among sports enthusiasts as it allows participants to experience the scenic beauty of the Imjin River and the DMZ area.
Applications can be submitted on the DMZ Peace Marathon website until September 21. The participation fee is 30,000 KRW for the 10km course and 35,000 KRW for the half course. All participants will receive a hip sack and sports socks. Medals and souvenirs will be awarded upon completion.
The event will also feature various programs and activities such as celebratory performances, face painting, North Korean food experience booths, photo zones, and prize draws.

A Gyeonggi Province official stated, "With the transition to the COVID-19 endemic phase, we expect more participants than last year," adding, "We will do our best to prepare the event so that everyone can safely complete the race while enjoying the DMZ area."
