Gwangju Dong-gu Accelerates Efforts to Create an Age-Friendly City
Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is embarking on the creation of an age-friendly city.
The Age-Friendly City Creation Committee of Dong-gu is composed of 14 members, including experts in the elderly field, heads of elderly welfare-related facilities, and district council members. The committee is responsible for reviewing and advising on various elderly welfare policies and projects to establish an age-friendly city.
The committee recently held a meeting to discuss the major achievements in the first half of this year and the key projects for the second half.
The main accomplishments include ▲expansion of senior clubs ▲promotion of the 6.5 DAY commemorative ceremony and publication of an elderly welfare service guidebook ▲activation of the age-friendly monitoring team ▲operation of the visiting classic movie theater ▲customized health management services using ICT ▲and revitalization of the communication community center project.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “The valuable opinions discussed at today’s meeting will serve as an important foundation for creating an age-friendly Dong-gu.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to organically cooperate between the public and private sectors to make Dong-gu a happy place where not only the elderly but all residents can live together well.”
