Ministry of Health and Welfare Holds 4th 'Medical Security Innovation Forum'
On the 19th at 3 p.m., the Ministry of Health and Welfare held the 4th "Medical Security Innovation Forum" at the Mozart Hall on the 31st floor of the President Hotel in Seoul. The forum discussed the "Direction of Reforming the Medical Delivery System Centered on Regional Responsibility Medical Institutions such as National University Hospitals for Providing Regionally Complete Essential Medical Care." The session included a keynote presentation by Yeonageum, a research fellow at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Professor Shin Youngseok of Korea University College of Medicine.
Yeonageum, a research fellow at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, diagnosed the collapse of the regional and essential medical care ecosystem and the lack of roles played by regional responsibility medical institutions. She also proposed establishing an essential medical care system that all citizens can safely use in their residential areas through building a regional medical delivery system centered on coexistence and cooperation, strengthening the essential medical capabilities of regional responsibility medical institutions, expanding the training and supply of regional and essential medical personnel, and enhancing national responsibility for regional and essential medical care.

Park Minsu, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, stated, "Ensuring that citizens can sufficiently access essential medical care directly related to life and safety anywhere in the country is the primary task our healthcare system must pursue." He added, "It is when the medical capabilities of regional responsibility medical institutions are strengthened and established as hubs, and when primary to tertiary medical institutions in the region closely cooperate around these hubs to provide essential medical care, that the network can be expanded."
