Ulsan Office of Education Launches School Violence Eradication Task Force Directly Under Superintendent
On the 19th, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education launched the School Violence Eradication Promotion Team directly under the Superintendent of Education.
This project aims to reduce school violence incidents and help stabilize educational activities at individual schools, and it was the first approval by the 10th Superintendent of Education.
On the same day, the Ulsan Office of Education held the appointment ceremony for the School Violence Eradication Promotion Team directly under the Superintendent and the 1st regular meeting at the Sympathy Conference Room. The event was attended by Superintendent Cheon Chang-su, 13 members of the promotion team (4 ex officio members, 9 appointed members), and a total of 20 people.
The School Violence Eradication Promotion Team directly under the Superintendent consists of ex officio members including the Director of Democratic Citizenship Education, the heads of the Gangbuk and Gangnam Student Life Recovery Support Centers, and the head of the Women and Youth Division of the Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency. Appointed members include lawyers, retired teachers, counselors, teachers, students, and parents.
Promotion team members participate in regular meetings twice a year to propose policies related to school violence and suggest projects to expand education for the eradication and prevention of school violence. They also support fair handling of serious school violence incidents.
The regular meeting held after the appointment ceremony aims to gather opinions from the educational community to establish school-tailored school violence countermeasures and policies and to prepare an immediate response system for serious incidents of school violence.
The city education office holds a roundtable discussion once every six months involving the Superintendent, students, parents, teachers, and experts, and operates a joint consultative body between the main office and education support offices’ dedicated school violence departments on a regular basis. A rapid response system is also established to actively support school sites in case of serious incidents.
In particular, support will be provided to ensure that the significantly revised school violence incident handling procedures for the 2024 academic year are smoothly implemented at individual schools.
Serious school violence close to criminal offenses will be handled fairly and strictly by strengthening the School Violence Countermeasure Deliberation Committee of the education support offices. Minor school violence arising from trivial misunderstandings and conflicts between students will be supported through reconciliation and dispute mediation to achieve sincere apologies and reconciliation.
The Ulsan Office of Education stated that it will also promote various preventive activities with high educational effectiveness to create safe and happy schools.
