‘Increased Profit = More Jobs’ Creates a Virtuous Cycle, Boosting Local Community Vitality
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is attracting attention by presenting a new model for senior welfare and job creation for the elderly.
The district is promoting the market-type senior job project ‘Damchan’ in partnership with Yeongdeungpo Senior Club.
Damchan is a store where seniors provide healthy food made with taste and sincerity. This year, the newly introduced premium handmade home-cooked lunchboxes and salads have received great responses.
Market-type jobs are projects where seniors directly operate small-scale stores to generate profits. The business profits are paid as salaries to the seniors, and as profits increase, more jobs are created, generating a virtuous cycle that revitalizes the local community.
Damchan is located in the annex of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, where 22 seniors work in shifts for 2 hours each from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Damchan sells various types of lunchboxes and salads. In the future, side dishes such as banchan and kimchi will also be sold regularly to activate the store.
Lunchboxes and salads are provided only through packaging and delivery via pre-orders. Orders can be placed Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. by phone or through the KakaoTalk channel (Yeongdeungpo Senior Club).
This year, the district invested 13.9 billion KRW in senior job projects, creating 4,262 jobs including senior cafes, elementary school meal helpers, lunchbox delivery for low-income seniors, and school zone traffic guidance.
