Jin Byeong-yeong, Hamyang County Governor, "No Change in Attracting Jirisan Cable Car"
Revealed in Meeting with the Hamyang Jirisan Cable Car Attraction Committee
Recently, Hamyang County, which is competing to attract the Jirisan Cable Car within the province, has issued an official statement regarding local media reports about Sancheong County's sole application for the Jirisan Cable Car project.
On the 14th, executives of the Hamyang Jirisan Cable Car Attraction Committee, mainly composed of residents from Macheon-myeon, visited the Hamyang County Office to protest the media reports.
At the meeting, the committee members stated that Sancheong County's unilateral application for the Jirisan Cable Car, amid the reality where residents are suffering great difficulties in their livelihoods due to national park regulations, is an act that disregards the people of Hamyang County, and they requested the official position of Hamyang County.

Hamyang County's determination to attract the cable car remains unchanged." He also expressed gratitude for the committee members who are conducting attraction activities at their own expense and promised to actively support the committee's efforts.
Governor Jin stated, "Attracting the Jirisan Cable Car is a matter of survival for the people of Hamyang County, who are oppressed by national park regulations," and added, "We will do our best to attract the Jirisan Cable Car, which is the aspiration of the people of Hamyang County and 300,000 overseas compatriots."
Since 2008, Hamyang County has made various efforts to install the Jirisan Cable Car. In 2011, it applied to the Ministry of Environment for a change in the national park plan with a sole route, and in 2015 and 2016, it applied jointly with Sancheong County. However, the cable car project was temporarily suspended due to the Ministry of Environment's policy prioritizing ecological preservation and its stance to review the project only if a single route agreement is reached among the Jirisan area local governments.
With the current government conditionally approving the Seoraksan Osaek Cable Car, the cable car project has become an issue again. In Hamyang County, residents voluntarily formed an attraction committee and held the launch ceremony of the "Hamyang Jirisan Cable Car Attraction Committee" on May 2, resuming efforts to attract the cable car.
Currently, about 200 committee members belong to the Hamyang Jirisan Cable Car Attraction Committee, actively engaging in activities such as signature campaigns among overseas compatriot associations, fundraising, and expert lecture events.
