Daejeon City "Free Public Transportation for Those Aged 70 and Over Starting September"
Citizens of Daejeon aged 70 and over will soon be able to use public transportation such as buses and subways in the region for free.
On the 17th, Daejeon City announced that it will implement the "Free Transportation Support Project for Citizens Aged 70 and Over" starting from September 15.
The project is being implemented to reduce the transportation cost burden for citizens aged 70 and over and to guarantee and expand their right to mobility.
The eligible individuals are citizens aged 70 and over who reside (registered residents) in the region. Daejeon City plans to distribute notification letters to the eligible individuals next month. Eligible individuals can apply for and receive the ‘Senior Free Transportation Card’ at the card issuance application locations and then use public transportation for free.
Mayor Lee Jang-woo of Daejeon said, “To resolve the transportation cost burden for seniors, from mid-September, they will be able to use city buses, village buses, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and urban rail for free,” adding, “Daejeon City will strive to provide safe and convenient public transportation services to its citizens.”
Meanwhile, on the same day (the 17th), Daejeon City signed a business agreement for the "Free Transportation Support Project for Citizens Aged 70 and Over" with Hana Bank, Hana Card, the Bus Transportation Business Association, and T-money.
According to the agreement, Daejeon City will be responsible for overall project management, system construction, and covering losses (budget support).

Additionally, Hana Bank will handle the issuance and verification of free transportation cards, Hana Card will manage the refund of usage fees and claim losses, the Bus Transportation Business Association will promote the project and monitor usage status, and T-money will be in charge of program development and data management, respectively.
