Gwangju Shinsegae Operates Program Providing College Students with Career Exploration Opportunities
Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Donghoon Lee) is fulfilling its role as a local corporation in Gwangju by providing university students with opportunities for career exploration and career development through on-site internships.
According to Gwangju Shinsegae on the 17th, since the 26th of last month, they have been operating industry-academia cooperation field internships for 3rd and 4th-year students enrolled at Chonnam National University to nurture local talent. This program will run for four weeks until the 21st.
The program content includes education on understanding Shinsegae and on-site work during the first week, and in the second week, education on support departments such as HR, general affairs, and accounting was conducted. The third week focused on how marketing is generally operated, including department store opening events and customer appreciation events. The fourth week is planned to be a time for hands-on experience through the internship, including direct sales and customer service.
Lee Yujeong, a 4th-year student in the Department of Business Administration at Chonnam National University who participated in the internship, said, “I have always been interested in department stores, and through this Gwangju Shinsegae internship, I was very pleased to directly experience how a company conducts its work.”
Donghoon Lee, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, “We have taken a step closer to nurturing local talent, which is fundamental to the role of a local corporation in Gwangju,” and added, “We will consider various programs to become a model of industry-academia cooperation between local universities and companies.”
Chonnam National University operates a regular education program for industry-academia cooperation field internships to provide students with opportunities for career exploration and career development through on-site experience at companies during their studies, to acquire professional knowledge required by society and companies, and to assist with career and employment.
Since its opening in 1995, Gwangju Shinsegae has been delivering scholarships to middle and high school students in the Gwangju area in connection with local government offices and scholarship foundations as part of its social contribution activities to nurture local talent.
Including this year, it has achieved remarkable results by supporting a total of over 3.2 billion KRW to 3,100 local talents over 28 years.
