'30-Year-Old Man Arrested and Indicted for Killing Neighbor and Arson Over Interfloor Water Leakage Dispute'
A man in his 30s who killed a neighbor and set fire after a dispute over water leakage between floors in a multi-family house in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, has been brought to trial in custody.
On the 14th, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's special investigation team for the 'Yangcheon-gu Neighbor Murder Case' (led by Chief Prosecutor Kwon Hyun-yoo of the Criminal Division 3) announced that they have indicted Jeong (39, male) on charges of murder and arson of an inhabited building.
According to the prosecution, Jeong is accused of harboring resentment after being asked by a woman in her 70s, Ms. A, who lived on the lower floor of the multi-family house, to resolve the water leakage issue between floors, and subsequently killing the victim and setting fire. He is also charged with theft to destroy evidence and secure funds for escape.
The prosecution stated that from the early stages of the case, they cooperated with the police to secure initial evidence, and after transferring the case to the prosecution, they conducted direct supplementary investigations such as forensic examinations, integrated psychological analysis, and crime route analysis through CCTV footage to specifically identify the crime. They also took measures to provide psychological treatment and funeral expenses support to the victim’s family immediately after the incident.
