Hyundai Motor Ranks 4th in UK Eco-Friendly Cars in H1... Ioniq 5 as a Key Contributor
Hyundai Motor Company ranked 4th in sales in the UK eco-friendly car market in the first half of this year. Major electric vehicle models such as the Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric (EV) were recognized for their marketability, and the total sales volume of all models set the highest record for the first half of the year in five years.
On the 14th, Hyundai Motor UK reported that it sold 22,821 eco-friendly vehicles in the UK during the first half of this year, ranking 4th in the industry. Hyundai's eco-friendly car sales in the UK (based on the first half of the year) have doubled in the past two years. This is due to the expansion of a diverse eco-friendly vehicle lineup including electric vehicles (EV), hybrids (HEV), and plug-in hybrids (PHEV).
Among them, electric vehicles are leading eco-friendly car sales. Hyundai sold 7,276 electric vehicles in the first half of this year. This is a rebound from 6,891 units sold in the second half of last year. Hyundai's UK electric vehicle sales have grown rapidly since 2021, when the Ioniq 5 began full-scale sales.
Annual electric vehicle sales, which were 6,988 units in 2020, nearly doubled to 12,656 units in 2021. In 2022, it recorded 14,449 units. Among these, the Ioniq 5 accounted for 5,986 units, representing 41% of annual electric vehicle sales. In the first half of this year, it continues its strong performance with 2,525 units sold.
Hyundai plans to strengthen its position in the UK electric vehicle market by expanding the supply of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in the second half of this year and increasing sales of the 2nd generation Kona EV, which began sales this month.
