KAI Begins Delivery of FA-50GF to Poland... Record Shortest Delivery Time
Delivery of 12 out of 48 Units from Poland Contract by This Year
Remaining 36 Units Scheduled for Delivery Starting 2025
Korea Aerospace Industries (hereinafter KAI) announced on the 13th that it has started delivering the Poland export version FA-50GF just 10 months after signing the export contract with Poland. This is the shortest delivery period in KAI's export history.
After signing a contract last September to export 48 FA-50 units to Poland, KAI held a rollout ceremony for the first prototype at its headquarters in Sacheon last month, attended by Mariusz Błaszczak, Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence.
The first and second FA-50GF units arrived in Poland on the 9th for delivery, underwent final inspections at Minsk Air Base, and will be handed over to the Polish Air Force in early August following acceptance flights.
Starting with this delivery, KAI plans to deliver 12 of the 48 contracted units to Poland by the end of this year, and develop the remaining 36 units into the FA-50PL configuration according to the Polish Air Force's requirements, with deliveries scheduled from 2025 to 2028.
On-site reassembly of the first FA-50GF unit in Poland. / KAI President Kang Gu-young personally visited Minsk Air Base on the 12th to check the delivery preparation status and met with Polish Air Force officials, promising the delivery of aircraft with perfect quality and stable follow-up support.
President Kang said, "This delivery marks a historic moment as the FA-50 makes its debut in the European market," adding, "We will thoroughly manage quality until the end to demonstrate the strength of K-defense and contribute to strengthening the Polish Air Force's capabilities."
KAI plans to use Poland as a marketing base to expand the FA-50's presence in the European market and further enter the U.S. market, the homeland of the aerospace industry, beyond Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa. Currently, KAI is focusing marketing efforts in Egypt, a strategic security hub in Africa, and is also challenging entry into the U.S. market with a target of 500 units.
If the FA-50 enters the U.S. market, it is expected to secure over 1,300 units and more than 50% market share in the global advanced trainer and light combat aircraft market, including expanded exports to allied countries.
