Gangjin-gun, Pre-Inspection in Preparation for Heavy Rainfall
Thorough Preparation, Swift Response to Even Small Risks
Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 13th that it will prioritize the lives and safety of its residents by minimizing damage from heavy rain and strengthening response measures, as heavy rainfall is expected this summer due to the development of El Ni?o.
Gangjin-gun will conduct emergency duty to prepare for concentrated rainfall occurring during the early morning hours, paying special attention to low-lying areas, landslide-prone zones, vulnerable groups, and elderly people living alone to provide immediate support and action.

In addition, the county is promoting heavy rain action guidelines to residents through village broadcasts and electronic display boards, and is paying close attention to safety management through the operation of voluntary disaster prevention groups, dedicated social workers, and disaster helpers.
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, Gangjinwon, the county governor, along with officials from related departments, began installing water pumps in the Mandeok reclamation area and completed inspections of seven drainage pump stations and drainage facilities installed within the county. They have made thorough preparations for heavy rain by organizing flood prevention materials and personnel deployment and maintaining an emergency contact network.
Currently, out of approximately 1,700 rainwater inlets in the county, cleaning has been completed for about 200 heavily polluted inlets, and maintenance of habitual flooding areas and roadside curbs has been finished to prevent damage from continuous rainfall.
Governor Gang Jinwon urged vigilance in monitoring vulnerable areas by sector and prompt safety measures, instructing thorough preparation and inspection of risk areas to prevent damage caused by heavy rain.
Governor Gang Jinwon said, “Above all, preventing loss of life is the most important,” and added, “I hope that thorough preemptive measures will be taken so that even small risks can be detected and responded to quickly.”
He also urged residents to refrain from recklessly inspecting water channels or entering rivers, and to contact the township office or county office if there is any sign of a potential landslide.
