Toray Advanced Materials Expands Carbon Fiber Facility with 3,300t Annual Capacity Increase
Targeted Operation Start in the Second Half of 2025
Toray Advanced Materials announced on the 13th that it will expand its carbon fiber (brand name TORAYCA) production facilities at its Gumi Plant 4 in Gyeongbuk, with an annual capacity of 3,300 tons. The target start of operation is the second half of 2025.
Toray Group, the global leader in carbon fiber, will secure an annual production capacity of 8,000 tons with this expansion. Toray Advanced Materials stated, "The carbon fiber produced on the expanded line embodies advanced technology," and explained, "It is expected to contribute to building a hydrogen ecosystem in the high-pressure vessel market, which is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 30% until 2030, and will be widely used in advanced industries such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM), aerospace, and wind power generation."
This investment is the result of discussions on expanding investment between Toray management and Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, amid active economic exchanges between the two countries through shuttle diplomacy between the Korean and Japanese leaders. To attract investment, Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, and the mayor of Gumi recently visited Toray in Japan in person.
