Yoon Approves Dismissal of Yoon Seok-nyeon from KBS Board in Lithuania
Electronic Approval on the Same Day of Dismissal Recommendation at the Local Site
It was reported on the 13th that President Yoon Suk-yeol approved the dismissal proposal of KBS director Yoon Seok-nyeon, who was indicted over the issue of changing the TV Chosun re-approval evaluation scores.
According to the Blue House, President Yoon approved the dismissal proposal electronically while in Lithuania, where the NATO summit was held the previous day.
Director Yoon served as the head of the evaluation committee during the 2020 Korea Communications Commission's re-approval evaluation of TV Chosun and was arrested in February on suspicion of altering evaluation scores, subsequently being prosecuted. He is currently released on bail.
In response, the Korea Communications Commission held a plenary meeting the previous day and recommended his dismissal, stating that Director Yoon is unable to properly perform his duties as a KBS director.
Following the resolution of the dismissal proposal, the Korea Communications Commission stated in a briefing, "Despite the high moral standards and integrity required of a public broadcasting director by social norms, Director Yoon was arrested and indicted for illegal activities, damaging KBS's honor and significantly undermining public trust."

According to the Broadcasting Act, the KBS board of directors must appoint a replacement director within 30 days if a vacancy occurs. Currently, two of the three standing members of the Korea Communications Commission are ruling party figures, so it is expected that the vacancy will be filled by a ruling party member. Accordingly, the KBS board is expected to be reorganized from a 4-to-7 opposition-to-ruling party ratio to a 5-to-6 ratio.
