“How Will ASEAN School Meals Be Served?”… Busan Office of Education Hosts Food Culture Experience Event
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, in collaboration with the KF ASEAN Culture Center, will operate the '2023 ASEAN Food Culture Experience Day' event targeting 12 schools, including Busan Il Science High School, until November.
This event aims to enhance students' understanding of ASEAN countries through food, creating a future-oriented exchange platform where these countries can communicate and empathize together.
Last year, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Vietnam, the 'Vietnam Food Culture Experience Day' was held at Geoje Girls' Middle School and Gaewon Elementary School.
This year's event commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Indonesia. The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will prepare Indonesian menus for school meals, and the ASEAN Culture Center will provide structure production, traditional ASEAN costume rentals, promotional leaflets, recipes, and more.

On that day, school meals featured traditional Indonesian dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Ayam Bakar, and various Indonesian foods and history were introduced via monitors inside the cafeteria. Additionally, students had the opportunity to experience wearing traditional Indonesian costumes.
The Busan Office of Education plans to publicize the cooking process on the 'Busan School Meal Class' YouTube channel to widely promote ASEAN country cuisines. They also aim to activate educational exchanges between schools to provide students with opportunities to experience the history and culture of ASEAN countries.
The KF ASEAN Culture Center opened in Busan in September 2017 as one of the follow-up projects of the 2014 Korea-ASEAN Special Summit.
