Full-scale monsoon season begins with on-site inspection of mountain solar power plants... Activation of 'Weather Alert-linked Safety Management System'
Deputy Minister of Industry Inspects Safety Status of 'Yeoju Mountain Solar Power'
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is strengthening safety management of mountain solar power facilities by conducting on-site inspections as the monsoon season begins in earnest, along with daily monitoring of damage situations and activating an emergency response system among related organizations.
On the 12th, the Ministry announced that Deputy Minister Kang Kyung-sung visited the 'Guin Solar Power Plant,' a mountain solar power facility located in Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi Province, together with the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation and the Korea Energy Agency, to inspect the operational status and safety conditions of the power generation facilities.
As part of the 'Special Measures for Safety Management of Mountain Solar Power' announced in August last year, the Ministry completed special safety inspections (1,408 sites) in June for facilities relatively vulnerable to wind and flood damage. Additionally, the safety management status of mountain solar power facilities is monitored daily. The Ministry is also guiding the public to report damage through the Energy Agency call center, and operates a weather advisory-linked safety management system that provides early warnings of hazardous weather and damage report reception points when weather alerts are issued.

Deputy Minister Kang said, "With the monsoon season underway, there is a high risk of safety accidents at mountain solar power facilities vulnerable to wind and flood damage. The Ministry, local governments, and related organizations must work together to thoroughly ensure safety. Solar power operators and safety management agencies should conduct thorough inspections of solar power facilities and surrounding areas to prevent safety accidents, and respond promptly on-site to damage reports to prevent secondary damage."
