Park Jong-gyun, Gwangju Dong-gu Council Member, Proposes 'Underground Safety Management Ordinance'
Park Jong-gyun, a member of the Dong-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 11th that he proposed the "Ordinance on Underground Safety Management in Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City" at the 302nd extraordinary session.
The ordinance stipulates necessary measures to ensure safety by preventing accidents occurring underground such as ground subsidence, potholes, and sinkholes in advance. It includes preventive measures such as planning related matters in advance, undergoing committee review, and investigating to prevent accidents from occurring.
Councilman Park Jong-gyun stated, "Recently, ground subsidence accidents, which occur frequently, have been happening continuously throughout Gwangju, increasing anxiety among the residents."
He added, "I hope this will be an opportunity to systematically establish a safety management plan for underground facilities and prevent safety accidents in advance to ensure the safety of the residents."

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the underground safety information system shows that Gwangju has more cases of ground subsidence compared to other metropolitan cities. The numbers are 123 cases in Gwangju, 94 in Busan, 62 in Daejeon, 42 in Incheon, 16 in Ulsan, and 14 in Daegu.
