Gokseong-gun and Green Umbrella Foundation Promote Hometown Love Designated Donation Project
‘Please Gift a Pediatric Clinic to Gokseong’ Gains Momentum
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it will promote a hometown love donation designated donation project called "Please Give Gokseong a Pediatrics Clinic" (hereinafter "Gokseong Pediatrics") together with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.
On the 10th, Gokseong-gun signed a business agreement with the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation (Head Kim Yoo-sung).
According to the agreement, Gokseong-gun will take charge of planning and promoting the Gokseong Pediatrics project and provide related information to the foundation for effective promotion.
The foundation will promote the Gokseong Pediatrics project nationwide in the form of a campaign using various internal channels.
The Gokseong Pediatrics project is a business aimed at improving the insufficient private pediatric and adolescent medical infrastructure in rural areas.
Its detailed goals include ▲specialist visits to Gokseong for medical treatment, ▲advance reservations for pediatric and adolescent clinics in nearby urban areas, and ▲support for half-price pediatric and adolescent consultation fees.
Notably, the funds required for the project will be covered by hometown love donations.
So far, most regions have been pointed out to have limitations as hometown love donations have been used for broad goals such as supporting vulnerable groups or promoting culture and arts.
Experts believe that to revitalize the hometown love donation system, it is important to promote designated donation projects with clear goals and content.
They emphasize the need to increase the sense of efficacy in donation acts to elicit public sympathy.
Gokseong-gun’s proactive attempt to promote a designated donation project by presenting the pediatrics project is expected to be an important gauge for revitalizing the hometown love donation system.
Local agricultural cooperatives have also stepped forward for the project to solve regional issues using hometown love donations.
Gokseong Nonghyup (Chairman Kim Wan-sul), Gokseong Livestock Cooperative (Chairman Kim Hyung-jo), Seokgok Nonghyup (Chairman Han Seung-jun), and Okgwa Nonghyup (Chairman Koo Jung-hoon), which participate as providers of hometown love donation return gifts for Gokseong-gun, also signed separate agreements with the foundation.
Based on the agreements, local agricultural cooperatives will donate a portion of the sales revenue from Gokseong-gun hometown love donation return gifts to the foundation.
The foundation plans to use the entire donation amount for welfare projects for children in the Gokseong area.
Lee Sang-cheol, Governor of Gokseong-gun, said, "This project will greatly help resolve the difficulties that residents have had to endure due to the absence of a private pediatric and adolescent specialized hospital." He added, "We will continue to discover and promote various designated donation projects that can improve the lives of residents through hometown love donations."
Kim Yoo-sung, Head of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, said, "We hope that the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation’s collaboration with local governments on the nation’s first hometown love donation designated donation project will serve as an opportunity to raise the level of child welfare in the region."
Gokseong-gun plans to actively promote the Gokseong Pediatrics project through practical consultations with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation. In June, it already signed a business agreement with Gwangju Cheomdan Medicare Clinic to establish a cooperative foundation for specialized pediatric and adolescent medical treatment.
