Gumi-si Installs Floor-Type Pedestrian Traffic Lights at 5 Locations Including Indeok Elementary School
Providing Signal Information at Crosswalk Waiting Lines to Enhance Pedestrian Traffic Safety
Expected Reduction in Pedestrian Accidents and Increased Traffic Signal Compliance in Children Protection Zones
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk installed LED floor-type pedestrian traffic lights at five locations including Induk Elementary School, Seonju Elementary School, Sangmo Elementary School, Wonho Elementary School, and Wangsang Elementary School to prevent pedestrian traffic accidents at crosswalks within school zones.
The city began installing floor-type pedestrian traffic lights at crosswalks in 2022 and has installed them at nine locations so far, including Gumi Station, Hyeongil Elementary School, and Indong Police Substation, with plans to install a total of 16 locations by the end of the year.
The floor-type pedestrian traffic light (also known as floor signal light) is an auxiliary device for pedestrian traffic lights that enhances visibility by changing the color of the LED display installed on the crosswalk waiting line on the ground between red and green in sync with the pedestrian traffic light.
Additionally, the city plans to pilot the installation of pedestrian signal voice guidance devices, expecting that the compliance rate of traffic signals by pedestrians and drivers will improve significantly, contributing greatly to the prevention of child traffic accidents.
