Songdo, Osong, and 3 Other Areas Confirmed as Candidates for 'Global Bio Campus'
Five regions, including Songdo in Incheon, Siheung in Gyeonggi, Osong in Chungbuk, Hwasun in Jeonnam, and Andong in Gyeongbuk, have been confirmed as candidates for the 'Global Bio Campus.'
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 7th the results of the selection contest for the establishment of the Global Bio Campus and stated that it will consult with the respective local governments.
The Global Bio Campus is a facility for education and training of bio personnel from low- and middle-income countries, promoted following South Korea's designation by the World Health Organization (WHO) last year as a global bio workforce training hub.
Through this contest process, the Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to operate regional campuses in five areas deemed suitable for conducting bio workforce education and training, and to network these campuses to consolidate bio education capabilities.
Among them, the Global Bio Songdo Campus will serve as the main campus, housing the support foundation for the workforce training hub. It will have a total floor area of 3,300㎡, equipped with lecture rooms, laboratories, and office spaces, and is scheduled to officially open by the end of next year.
These five regional campuses will participate in the operation of the workforce training hub and share the annual demand for education of approximately 2,000 global bio production personnel.
