Yeosu GS Caltex Yeulmaru & Jangdo has been selected as the optimal MICE venue representing Korea.
Yeosu City announced that GS Caltex Yeulmaru & Jangdo was named among the 15 Korea Unique Venues hosted and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. Yeosu was the only city in Jeollanam-do to be selected.
Korea Unique Venue refers to an international conference landmark in Korea that is ‘Korea’ - possessing charm and uniqueness representing Korea, ‘Unique’ - providing a memorable and distinctive spatial experience, and ‘Venue’ - offering spaces and facilities capable of hosting MICE events.
The Korea Unique Venue new designation contest, resumed after three years since 2020, selected a total of 15 venues this year that have the capability to host international MICE events and represent Korea, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
As a result, GS Caltex Yeulmaru & Jangdo has been granted the status of Korea Unique Venue for three years and will be promoted overseas as one of the 52 Korea Unique Venues, including the previously selected 37 venues and the 15 venues selected this year, representing Korea as a MICE hosting location.
Korea Unique Venue offers not only enhanced marketing support to increase overseas recognition but also benefits such as customized support according to event scale under the newly established special MICE event attraction support system this year, as well as facility improvements and promotional content production.
Earlier, the Korea Tourism Organization selected 40 venues from 53 nationwide candidates through document screening in February, then selected 20 venues after presentation evaluations in April, and finally chose 15 venues through on-site evaluations in May and June.
On the 6th, a ceremony was held where the newly selected Unique Venues and existing Unique Venues, totaling 52, gathered to motivate participation in the ‘Korea Unique Venue’ project and to receive plaques.
Lee Seungpil, Director of GS Caltex Yeulmaru, stated, “The unique location and spatial charm of Yeulmaru, where one can enjoy culture and arts amidst a pristine natural environment, seem to have demonstrated sufficient capability to be selected as a Korea Unique Venue,” adding, “Through its role as a MICE venue with unparalleled appeal, it will become a space loved not only domestically but also globally.”
Jung Jaeho, Director of Fisheries Tourism Bureau of Yeosu City, said, “In the endemic era, MICE organizers and participants seek more special experiences at offline event venues,” and added, “With this Korea Unique Venue selection, we will showcase Yeosu’s appeal as a differentiated MICE venue and enhance the competitiveness of Yeosu’s MICE industry.”
