Kim Bong-hyun Even Drew Rescue from Prison Transport Vehicle... 27 Pages of A4 Escape Plan
Indicate 'Rescuer' as the occupant in the escort vehicle
Describe specifics such as presence of CCTV and smoking areas
It has been revealed that former Star Mobility Chairman Kim Bong-hyun wrote a 27-page plan on A4 paper to escape from the detention center where he is incarcerated. The plan included drawings depicting the structure of the court, the prosecution office, as well as the escort vehicle.
On the 6th, a Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office official stated that Kim said, "I drew a map of the escort routes of the courts and prosecution offices I had been to in order to escape from the detention center," and added, "I also noted when meal times were during the prosecution investigation and how many guards were absent at those times." The official continued, "It seems he reviewed what he saw and then took notes in his room," and said, "It appears he planned it very meticulously."
The prosecution recognized around mid-June that Kim Bong-hyun was planning to escape by taking advantage of lax security when leaving the Seoul Southern Detention Center with his biological sister Kim (50) for prosecution appearances. On that day, Kim’s sister underwent a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) on charges of attempted assistance in detainee escape and harboring a criminal. The warrant decision is expected to be announced as early as late that afternoon.
Kim’s 'escape plan,' which appears to have been drawn with a pencil, detailed very specific matters. According to prosecution officials, he drew bird’s-eye views of each floor of the building, recorded vehicle movement directions, whether building entrances were used at night, the presence of CCTV, and smoking areas. The bird’s-eye view of the escort vehicle even depicted the seating arrangement of the staff. Kim labeled his own seat in the escort vehicle as "rescuer." A prosecution official said, "It was written in such detail that others could also use it."
The escape plan was uncovered by a relative, A, of a detainee incarcerated in the same detention center as Kim. Kim promised to give 2 billion won as a reward for a successful escape to the detainee, and Kim’s sister, who is outside the detention center, reportedly gave A 10 million won as a down payment. A prosecution official speculated, "Kim probably drew such drawings to recruit people to help with his escape plan."

The prosecution plans to conduct further investigations into the source of the 10 million won given by Kim’s sister to A, how the detainee’s notes were leaked outside, the authenticity of the promised 2 billion won, and whether there are additional accomplices. It is reported that Kim’s sister testified that the 10 million won was her 'legitimate' personal money.
