Unreported Infant Death Burials in Sacheon, Gyeongnam... 14 More Cases Reported in One Day
Following Geoje and Jinju in Gyeongnam, it has been confirmed that one child who was born in Sacheon but not registered at birth has died.
According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency on the 6th, there have been a total of 47 requests for cooperation and investigation related to unregistered births as of 2 p.m. on the 5th.
This is an increase of 14 cases in one day from the 33 cases reported at the same time on the 4th.
The police are currently investigating a biological mother who gave birth and raised a child seven years ago and buried the child’s body after the child died.
According to the police, Ms. A, a woman in her 40s, stated that she gave birth to a son at a maternity hospital in another region on June 27, 2016, and after returning home and raising him, the child died one month after birth.
She reportedly said that although her memory is not clear due to the time elapsed, she buried the child next to her father’s grave in Buyeo-gun, Chungnam Province, because the child had passed away.
The child was not registered at birth.
The police are currently conducting a pre-investigation to determine whether there is any criminal suspicion based on the investigation request from the local government.
