Gangnam-gu Creates 'Walkable Street' Connecting Pedestrian Paths in Building Forest
Gangnam-gu Creates ‘Walkable Streets’ Connecting 10.6km of Building Forest Pedestrian Paths
Connecting Dosan-daero, Yeongdong-daero, Teheran-ro, and Gangnam-daero in a grid pattern to accelerate the ‘Gangnam Walkable Green Way’ project
Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will begin the basic design service for the Gangnam Walkable Green Way project in August, which aims to create a pedestrian-friendly circular road shaped like a grid (井) connecting Dosan-daero, Yeongdong-daero, Teheran-ro, and Gangnam-daero.
The ‘Walkable Streets in the City Center’ project, a campaign promise of the 8th local government, aims to create a comfortable walking path seamlessly connecting the building forest, with each street offering spaces where visitors can enjoy different themes.
Additionally, by efficiently utilizing green spaces along the roads and integrating digital technology, the project aims to create smart streets that allow people to experience nature while addressing urban issues such as vehicle noise, lack of shade, air pollution, and flood inundation.
The project covers a total distance of 10.6km connecting Dosan-daero, Yeongdong-daero, Teheran-ro, and Gangnam-daero.
▲ Dosan-daero, from Sinsa Station Intersection to the southern end of Yeongdong Bridge, passes through major attractions such as Garosu-gil, Dosan Park, Apgujeong Rodeo Street, and Cheongdam-dong luxury shopping street. The plan is to add green spaces to the wide pedestrian paths so visitors can enjoy these landmarks while walking. ▲ The Yeongdong-daero section between Samsung Station and Bongeunsa Station will actively utilize the planned ground plaza from the 2028 complex development project. This space will be transformed into an urban garden to create a relaxing walking area.
▲ The Teheran-ro section between Gangnam Station and Samsung Station will see sidewalk expansions, bicycle lanes, and street forests in line with Seoul City’s pedestrian-centered sidewalk improvement project. ▲ Gangnam-daero will be transformed into a street where digital art can be enjoyed by utilizing 18 media poles and 5 large electronic billboards installed along the roadside.
