Yangcheon-gu Installs 255 ‘Ground Lights’ to Ensure Safe Nighttime Return in Dark Residential Areas
Ground Lights Installed Along a 540m Section from 80 Eunhaengjeong-ro 17-gil to 19 Omok-ro 37-gil in Sinjeong 4-dong for Safe Walking
Applied Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Lighting with Strong Psychological Deterrent Effect to Provide Psychological Stability
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gijae) announced that it will install 255 ‘Safe Return Ground Lights (Road Markers)’ this month on back roads in residential areas with high crime risk, illuminating the ground to allow vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly to walk without worry.
The installation section covers approximately 540 meters from 80 Eunhaengjeong-ro 17-gil to 19 Omok-ro 37-gil in Sinjeong 4-dong. The ground-embedded installation method will minimize inconvenience to road users and light pollution to nearby homes.
This project, selected through this year’s resident participation budget, gained additional significance as local residents directly identified alley sections needing ground lighting for crime prevention.
Furthermore, the district plans to focus on providing psychological stability and ensuring daily safety by applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), which has a crime psychological deterrent effect, to the ground lighting.
Meanwhile, last year, the district installed over 100 ground lights in the areas of 16na-gil, Mokdongjungangnam-ro, Mok 3-dong, and 15-gil, Jiyang-ro, Sinwol 7-dong, creating a safer nighttime walking environment in residential neighborhoods.
