Police: "38 Unreported Births in Seoul... Investigation into Abandonment, Abuse, and Neglect"
It has been revealed that there have been 38 cases of infants born in Seoul whose births were recorded but not officially registered. The police have stated that they will conduct a strict investigation into charges such as abandonment, abuse, and neglect.
On the 4th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that from the 30th of last month until 1 p.m. on this day, a total of 38 cases related to unregistered births were reported through cooperation requests and investigation referrals from Seoul City and various district offices. Among these, 14 cases are currently undergoing verification of basic facts, while 24 cases are in the pre-indictment investigation stage.
By type, there are 27 cases of abandonment, including 24 involving baby boxes, 3 cases of physical and emotional abuse and neglect, 2 cases violating the Special Adoption Act, and 6 other cases.
A police official stated, "The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will conduct a strict investigation into serious legal violations going forward."

The National Investigation Headquarters of the Korean National Police Agency announced that a total of 209 cases of unregistered births have been reported nationwide as of this day, with 193 cases currently under investigation. The police have identified the whereabouts of 20 unregistered children so far, while the whereabouts of 178 remain unknown. It has been confirmed that 11 children have already passed away.
