The pumped storage power plant that Yeongyang County is promoting to attract will involve a construction cost of 2 trillion won in national funds, contributing to revitalizing the local economy, increasing population, expanding infrastructure, and boosting tourism. It will also secure 1.4 billion won annually in local taxes, making it an unprecedented opportunity to revive Yeongyang County, which is facing the risk of regional extinction. Therefore, all residents are hoping for the attraction of the power plant.
On June 30, Yeongyang County Governor O Do-chang, County Council Chairman Kim Seok-hyun, Yang Bong-cheol, Standing Chairman of the Pan-Citizen Committee for Attracting the Pumped Storage Power Plant to Yeongyang County, and about 20 others visited the headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to submit the application for attracting the pumped storage power plant.
Hwang Dae-gyu, Chairman of Cheongsong-Yeongyang Livestock Cooperative, said, “I am pleased to participate in attracting the pumped storage power plant, a long-cherished project of Yeongyang, and until the day the power plant is successfully attracted, Yeongyang Nonghyup and Cheongsong-Yeongyang Livestock Cooperative will continue to lend their support.”
