A Man in His 40s Who Contacted His Breakup Partner 111 Times... Suspended Prison Sentence in First Trial
A man in his 40s who contacted his ex-girlfriend 111 times and caused injury after she asked to break up was sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial.
On the 4th, Judge Min Seong-cheol of the Criminal Division 3 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Seo (41), who was charged with violating the Stalking Punishment Act and causing special injury, to one year in prison with a three-year suspension. Additionally, he was ordered to undergo 40 hours of probation and a stalking recurrence prevention program, as well as 120 hours of community service.
Seo is accused of calling or sending photos and messages 111 times over a month to his girlfriend who notified him of their breakup last July. He also sent photos of himself handcuffed, crying, and pictures they had taken together in the past. Furthermore, he repeatedly sent messages saying, "I want to get married."
Seo met his girlfriend, saying, "If a famous fortune teller says we are not lovers, I will break up," and while drinking together, he struck her head with his cellphone and caused her to fall, resulting in injury.
Seo reportedly claimed that he only contacted the victim to apologize and reach a settlement, denying that he engaged in stalking.
