Seosan and Geumsan Selected as 'Drone Special Zones'... Chungnam Promotes Practical Use and Commercialization of Drone Industry
Seosan City and Geumsan County in Chungnam have been selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “2nd Drone Special Free Zone (Drone Special Zone) Designation Contest.” This is the second time following the designation of Asan City and Taean County as drone special zones in 2021.
According to Chungnam Province on the 4th, the projects selected in the 2nd contest are urban air mobility (UAM) and island area drone delivery demonstration (Seosan) and forest-specialized drone testbed establishment (Geumsan).
Seosan has a total of three zones designated as drone special zones, where urban air mobility demonstrations will be conducted around Bunanho Lake, delivery and safety-related activities in Garorim Bay, and industrial complex and safety-related demonstrations at Samgilpo Port.
Geumsan has two zones designated as drone special zones in the Jeowon-myeon and Buri-myeon areas, performing tasks such as transporting forest seedlings, assessing forest vegetation indices, and monitoring and reconnaissance for forest fires.
Chungnam Province expects that with the addition of Seosan and Geumsan as drone special zones, alongside the existing anti-drone service (Asan) and coastal-specialized drone service (Taean), the practical use and commercialization of the drone industry in the region will be promoted.
The drone special zone is a regulatory special zone designated by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to exempt or simplify prior regulations related to drone flights and prior evaluations related to radio waves.
