Seongdong-gu to Hold Dumopo Festival on the 8th
Musical Festival on a Summer Night Conveying a Message of Inclusion to be Held on the 8th
Rich Program Including Military Band Performance, Musical, and Food Market at Dumopo, Site of Joseon Dynasty Military Expedition Ceremony
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will hold the Dumopo Festival, a summer night musical conveying a message of harmony and inclusion with residents, at Oksoo Station Hangang Park on the 8th of this month.
Under the subtitle "Beat, Gather, Embrace," this festival is set against the backdrop of Dumopo in the Oksu-dong area, where military expedition ceremonies were held during the Joseon Dynasty. Drawing on the historical fact of the Dumopo expedition that led the conquest of Tsushima Island in the first year of King Sejong’s reign, the festival offers a rich array of attractions including a military band parade and a musical gala show.
This military band expedition parade will be grandly reenacted through a collaboration between the traditional Korean music creative group The Narin and Movement Korea. Using samulnori (traditional percussion) and shuffle dance, the story of that historic day will be conveyed in a witty and lively manner.
Next, the 'Musical Gala Show' will present a stage of intergenerational communication by reinterpreting famous musical songs with the theme of the Dumopo expedition. Featuring heavenly voices, Korea’s top musical couple Kim So-hyun and Son Jun-ho, along with leading actors Yoo So-ri and Jang Yoon-seok from the musical The Man Who Laughs, will perform. Following this, Korea’s top music director Jang So-young will lead a magnificent and grand orchestra performance, delivering an energetic stage with the actors.
A flea market selling charming crafts will be held, and visitors can enjoy various experiences such as ▲caricature ▲face painting ▲calligraphy ▲virtual reality (VR) experiences.
Additionally, food trucks will be set up to create a lively festival combining music and food.
From the 3rd to the 8th, a photo zone exhibiting eight general balloon art pieces (created by Gong Mi-jin, Park Cho-a, Lee Won-kyung, and Yoon Yeo-won) will be installed under Oksoo Station, providing diverse attractions to enhance the festival atmosphere.
Seongdong-gu held the first festival in 2019 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Dumopo expedition. Since Dumopo, located in the old Joseon-era ferry area at Oksoo Station Hangang district, was a place where history was made overcoming hardships with high spirits and strong shouts, the district plans to continue preserving tradition and culture with residents through various performances.
