Forced Handstand with Twisted Wrists... Former Marine Sentenced for Bullying Junior Soldier
6 Months Imprisonment with 2 Years Probation
A man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of subjecting junior soldiers to harsh treatment and assault during his service in the Marine Corps.
On the 2nd, Yonhap News reported that the Busan District Court East Branch Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Park Ju-young) sentenced Mr. A to six months in prison with a two-year probation period in a case where he was charged with special assault and abuse of power.
The charges stem from his service last year at a Marine Corps unit located in Incheon, where he allegedly assaulted and subjected two junior soldiers to harsh treatment.
Mr. A is accused of inserting crutches between the legs of junior soldier Mr. B in the barracks and twisting them, as well as forcing Mr. B and his junior, Mr. C, to stand on their hands as punishment for not cleaning properly.
He is also accused of blindfolding them, making them balance on one foot while standing on a chair, and forcing a left-handed junior soldier to eat with his right hand, saying it was "annoying."
Additionally, he allegedly forced a junior soldier to lie on the barracks floor with a military dog tag in his mouth and compelled smoking. He is also charged with assaulting the junior soldiers.
The court stated, "The defendant repeatedly subjected two junior soldiers to harsh treatment and assault, and the severity of the crime is not light," adding, "Considering that the defendant admitted all charges and showed remorse, as well as reached a settlement with the victims, the sentence was determined."
