KOSPI Closes Strong on Institutional Net Buying Turnaround
The KOSPI index closed higher, supported by net buying from institutional investors.
On the 30th, the KOSPI index closed at 2,564.28, up 14.26 points (0.56%) from the previous day. Trading volume was 498.87 million shares, and trading value was 8.0365 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions were net buyers with 203.1 billion won, while foreigners and individuals were net sellers with 162.2 billion won and 67.8 billion won, respectively. In program trading, there was a net sale of 9.5 billion won in arbitrage trading and 9.3 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.
Following mixed signals from the New York stock market the previous day, the KOSPI index started the session near flat. Later, supported by net buying from individuals, the KOSPI index moved in a slightly positive range and successfully reversed to an upward trend as institutions switched to net buying.
By sector, most sectors rose. The electric and gas industry rose 2.4%, transportation equipment 1.98%, machinery 1.58%, distribution 1.32%, securities 1.3%, transportation and warehousing 1.23%, chemicals 1.02%, insurance 0.89%, finance 0.82%, and food and beverage 0.74%. Meanwhile, medical precision recorded a slight decline of 0.05%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 72,200 won, down 200 won (0.28%) from the previous trading day. SK Hynix fell 0.86%, and Samsung Biologics also dropped 0.53%. LG Energy Solution rose 0.55%, and LG Chem increased by more than 1%. Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors closed strong with gains of 0.98% and 2.91%, respectively, on expectations of strong earnings.
The KOSDAQ index also closed higher. On the day, the KOSDAQ index ended at 868.24, up 6.45 points (0.75%) from the previous day. By investor type, foreigners and individuals were net buyers with 600 million won and 33.7 billion won, respectively, while institutions recorded a net selling position of 4.5 billion won.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM rose 3.32%, EcoPro 5.6%, L&F 2.1%, JYP Ent. 4.72%, HLB 3.17%, Celltrion Pharm 0.13%, and Caregen 3.8%. On the other hand, Celltrion Healthcare fell 0.15%, Pearl Abyss -0.38%, and Kakao Games -2.09%.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate closed at 1,317.7 won, up 0.1 won from the previous day.
