Newly Designated 29 Child Protection Zones Including Children's Parks and Children's Dream Parks
Ensuring Children's Safety and Right to Play through Installation of Signs and Strengthened Real-Time CCTV Monitoring
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that starting from the 23rd of this month, 29 locations including children's parks and children's dream parks will be designated and operated as child protection zones.
Child protection zones under the Child Welfare Act refer to specially designated areas within 500 meters from the boundaries of facilities such as urban parks to protect children from risks of crimes such as abduction.
Children's parks and children's dream parks are parks equipped with various facilities for children, guaranteeing their right to play and serving as spaces for children's happiness. These spaces have high usage rates by children, raising the need to strengthen management to ensure children's safety and right to play, and to create an environment where guardians can feel secure. Accordingly, Seongdong-gu designated 29 locations including children's parks as child protection zones on the 23rd of this month.
Once designated as child protection zones, guide signs and CCTVs will be installed and real-time monitoring will be strengthened to prevent crimes. Currently, an average of about 300 CCTVs are installed within a 500-meter radius of Seongdong-gu's children's parks and children's dream parks, and additional installations will be made as necessary to eliminate blind spots in the designated child protection zones.
A district official stated, “By designating child protection zones and strengthening management, we will create a living environment where children and guardians can feel safe.”
