Seongbuk-gu Opens ‘Youth Space Dongseon Ium’ on the Site of Former Mujungryeokjidae Seongbuk
Agreed with Seoul City for Free Use... Composed of Shared Kitchen, Meeting Rooms, and More
Official Operation Starts July 4... Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM
Expected to Serve as a Hub Connecting Youth and Local Residents
On the 27th, Seongbuk-gu opened ‘Dongseon Ium,’ a space dedicated to youth.
‘Youth Space Dongseon Ium’ signifies a space connecting the Dongseon-dong area and the youth of Seongbuk-gu. The interior covers a total floor area of 343.54㎡ (approximately 103 pyeong) and consists of Donne Ium (living room), Dongdong Kitchen (shared kitchen), Saenggak Ium (meeting room), and Siseon Ium (conference room).
At the end of last year, the existing youth space ‘Mujungryeokjidae Seongbuk,’ operated by Seoul City, ceased operations, and the operation of Wolgok-dong Seongbuk Youth Space also ended, continuously raising the need for a new youth space. Above all, Seongbuk-gu is a young city with about 130,000 youth aged 19 to 39, accounting for nearly one-third of the total population. Among its 20 neighborhoods, Dongseon-dong especially has 48% of its residents as youth, making it a place where youth infrastructure is even more necessary.
Accordingly, in March, the district office reached an agreement to use the space located at 50 Arirang-ro, where ‘Mujungryeokjidae Seongbuk’ was located, free of charge from Seoul City, to use it as a space for Seongbuk-gu youth. After about three months of preparation, the opening ceremony was held on the 27th.
About 100 people, including youth, local residents, Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, Jeong Yun-ju, Chair of the Administrative Planning Committee of Seongbuk-gu Council, Councilor So Hyung-jun, and Shin Jae-yong, Chair of the Dongseon-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee, celebrated the new beginning at the opening ceremony.
At the ceremony, Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “Seongbuk-gu will further strengthen initiatives such as ‘Cheonwon’s Morning Meal’ for youth, youth housing near transit stations, Samyang-ro youth startup street support, and Youth Space Dongseon Ium. We will continue to prepare practical policies and wholeheartedly support youth.”

‘Youth Space Dongseon Ium’ will officially open on July 4. Operating hours are Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 AM to 7 PM. Through various channels, it plans to listen to youth opinions and operate programs that meet user demands, also serving as a public forum for discovering youth policies. Additionally, the first-floor facilities ‘Donne Ium’ and ‘Dongdong Kitchen’ can be used not only by youth but also by local residents as a cooling shelter during hot weather and as rental spaces for various gatherings, receiving high expectations from the community.
