Prime Minister: "Minimizing Human Casualties is Important"
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo held a meeting on the afternoon of the 28th at the Government Seoul Office with related agencies to review response measures ahead of the nationwide heavy rain forecast for the 29th.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Han emphasized, "Minimizing casualties is of utmost importance," and urged, "We must predict dangerous situations as much as possible in advance to secure the golden time, and promptly guide residents in flood-prone areas on evacuation and safety measures."
He continued, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Meteorological Administration, and other related ministries must fully inform the public about the risks," and requested, "Local governments should actively advise people to avoid unnecessary outings and outdoor work during dangerous periods."
Prime Minister Han also instructed to inspect hazardous areas to prevent casualties caused by swift river currents, landslides, manhole falls, and retaining wall or embankment collapses. He plans to preside over the Central-Local Safety Inspection Meeting on the afternoon of the 29th to check the progress of disaster recovery projects.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted heavy rain nationwide starting from the 29th. Expected rainfall amounts until the 30th are 100 to 200 mm in northern Gyeonggi, Honam, and Jeju; 50 to 120 mm in Seoul, Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous Gangwon, Chungcheong, Yeongnam, and the five West Sea islands; 20 to 80 mm along the Gangwon East Coast; and 5 to 30 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
