AI Creates Sheet Music from Humming... Genie Music Unveils 'Genie Lira' Service
Genie Music has unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI) music service that helps users convert their favorite songs into digital sheet music and easily arrange them. The company plans to officially launch a premium service within the year and expand its AI remake business into the global market.
On the 28th, Genie Music and AI startup Juice held a press conference at Genie Music’s headquarters in Gangnam, Seoul, to reveal the beta version of the AI-based sheet music arrangement service, ’genie.Re:La’.
Genie.Re:La stands for ‘Let’s enjoy remake music on Genie,’ and it is a service where users simply upload an MP3, and the AI instantly generates digital sheet music. Users can then edit the sheet music and arrange the music. It is expected to lower the entry barriers for consumers who have been interested in composing and arranging.
The beta service of Genie.Re:La only allows uploads of officially distributed music to protect copyrights, and all work is stored only on the server. The service also includes technology that restricts uploads of music for which original creators do not want secondary works.
Genie Music and Juice plan to enhance the service within the year to enable users to release arranged music and establish a transparent settlement system for secondary derivative works so that original creators can also receive revenue when profits are generated.
Additionally, the two companies will collaborate on the ‘I am Re-Born’ project with MuFum, a music IP platform operated by producer Kim Hyung-seok, who has produced over 1,400 hit songs including ‘I Believe’ and ‘Sarangiraneun Iyuro.’ This project aims to recreate Kim PD’s famous hits through Genie.Re:La and release the music via Genie Music in the second half of the year.
At the event, a live string quartet performance was presented featuring ‘I Believe’ arranged in the styles of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven using Genie.Re:La. Producer Kim expressed his expectations, saying, "Genie.Re:La will allow users to experience the joy of music creation while protecting original creators’ copyrights and exploring ways to grow the remake music market."
Genie Music and Juice also announced plans to expand their AI remake business into the Asian and global markets in cooperation with KT, aiming to widely promote the value of K-pop music.
Market analysis firm Market.us forecasted that the global AI music generation market will grow more than elevenfold from $229 million (approximately 290 billion KRW) last year to $2.66 billion (approximately 3.38 trillion KRW) by 2032.
In response, Genie Music plans to provide tools that assist artists’ creativity through the Genie.Re:La premium service within the year, supporting the production of creative works. With this service, creators can instantly convert improvisations into sheet music and record melodies by humming to later convert them into sheet music for further work.
