Motorcycle delivery workers will have a foundation to perform deliveries in an improved environment where they can drive more safely and bear lower insurance costs. Woowa Brothers Corp. (CEO Kim Byung-woo), which is in charge of Baedal Minjok's logistics services, announced on the 28th that the Delivery Service Mutual Aid Association, jointly promoted by the government and major delivery industries, has been launched.
Recently, as the delivery industry has grown and the number of delivery workers has increased, the risk of traffic accidents has also risen. However, due to high insurance premiums, the insurance subscription rate among motorcycle delivery workers remains low. In response, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and nine major delivery companies have formed a 'Public-Private Joint Mutual Aid Association Promotion Council' since February last year to actively promote the establishment of a mutual aid association aimed at reducing insurance premiums for paid transportation by motorcycle delivery workers and increasing insurance subscription rates. As a result, after capital contributions and the founding general meeting of the association, the association's establishment was approved on the 9th of last month.
The mutual aid association offers insurance products specialized for delivery workers at prices approximately 20% lower than those in the market. Based on this, it plans to raise the insurance subscription rate for paid transportation by motorcycle delivery workers to 80% within five years. The association is expected to serve as a practical social safety net for both the general public and motorcycle delivery workers.
Baedal Minjok took an active role in establishing the association. Woowa Brothers Corp., responsible for Baedal Minjok's logistics services, contributed the largest capital of 4.7 billion KRW. Kim Bong-jin, the founder of Woowa Brothers, also donated 500 million KRW of his personal funds to support the enhancement of riders' rights.
