SK Telecom and Hana Financial Group announced on the 28th that they will jointly operate the ‘Happy Coding School,’ a visiting AI and software education program for elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide.

‘Happy Coding School’ is SKT’s flagship ESG program that provides grade-specific classes to help students in environments with limited access to digital education and youth with disabilities enhance their understanding of AI and learn coding concepts.

From 2019 to last year, SKT visited 128 schools and conducted ‘Happy Coding School’ classes for 1,294 young people. They have provided customized programs tailored to each visiting school, including developing coding education materials for different types of disabilities to support youth with disabilities.

This year, based on the collaboration between SKT and Hana Financial Group, the education program has been strengthened. The two companies plan to expand the number of schools participating in ‘Happy Coding School’ compared to before, allowing more students to experience the latest information and communication technology (ICT). SKT delivers knowledge related to AI and programming, while Hana Financial Group provides expertise in finance and fintech to meet students’ needs.

The basic course for elementary students and special class youth includes unplugged activities, coding, and physical computing. The advanced course materials, to be applied from September, include the use of generative AI and programming languages such as Python, enabling students to develop practical AI development skills.

SKT and Hana Financial Group plan to run the ‘Happy Coding School’ program until the end of the year for 70 schools conducting semester-based classes (10 sessions) and 16 schools conducting short-term classes (4 sessions). SKT will also promote a ‘Youth Coding Challenge Competition’ for youth with disabilities.
