View original imageThe International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) is a global non-governmental organization founded in 1970 to promote volunteerism worldwide, operating with individual, organizational, and corporate members from over 80 countries.
In November last year, Busan City applied to the IAVE, the event’s organizing body, to host the World Conference in Busan. The city established a cooperative framework with the Busan Volunteer Center and Busan Tourism Organization and emphasized Busan’s appeal?including its capability to host international events, strategic location, and tourism infrastructure?through multiple online meetings with the IAVE Secretariat based in the United States (Secretary-General Nicole Cirillo). As a result of these efforts, the Secretariat decided in early March to select Busan as the host city for 2024.
Since then, the city and the association have continued discussions regarding the event. In mid-June, the IAVE (organizer) and the Busan Volunteer Center (host organization) signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure the successful hosting of the conference. On June 22, the association officially confirmed Busan as the host city for the 27th World Volunteer Conference.
Through this memorandum of understanding, they pledged to ▲ establish a cooperative system for the successful hosting of the conference ▲ promote the event for mutual cooperation ▲ develop business plans for program composition ▲ foster partnerships with government agencies and corporations.
The IAVE will take a leading role in securing overseas participants, developing event programs, selecting keynote speakers, and appointing presenters for various meetings by leveraging its network of over 80 member countries.
Busan City and the Busan Volunteer Center will secure venues and accommodations, manage relationships with government and local partner organizations, recruit and train volunteers, secure corporate sponsorships and government and local subsidies, and handle administrative and policy roles.
