The drill, hosted by YGPA and jointly organized by LG Chem Co., Ltd., Hanwha Solutions Co., Ltd., and Hyodong Hangup Co., Ltd., involved about 50 participants from seven cargo owners, two stevedoring companies, and one spill response company using Jungheung Pier. Three fire trucks, four spill response vessels, and one ambulance were deployed.
In particular, the Yeosu Coast Guard and Yeosu Fire Station participated as cooperating agencies, enhancing the effectiveness of the drill.
The drill simulated a hazardous and noxious substances marine spill during loading operations at the pier, conducting spill response training such as valve shutoff, factory pump stoppage, and oil fence installation.
Additionally, a ship fire scenario was simulated, carrying out initial firefighting operations and rescue work using fire extinguishers, water curtains, fire trucks, and spill response vessels.
President Park Seong-hyun stated, "Safety accidents occurring at the Gwangyang Port Yeosu area piers handling hazardous materials have a very high potential to lead to major accidents causing large-scale human and material damage," and added, "We will continue to build a safe port through ongoing drills, accident response activity inspections, and active cooperation among related organizations."
